Gauge of Frame – Tubular Steel Frame: 1. 14 gauge – 2 ½” x 2 ½” steel tubing 2. 12 gauge – 2 ¼” x 2 ¼” steel tubing – Heavier and stronger than the 14 gauge – 20 year limited warranty on rust through of frame assuming normal user care/maintenance.
What is Gauge? Why are they important?
Gauge is standard measuring unit which defines thickness of a metal sheet or steel sheet. Every carport or metal structure company use it as a standard term to define the quality of the metal sheets. We have frames available in either 12-gauge or 14-gauge galvanized steel.
What are Certified Metal Buildings?
Looking at various factors such as heavy snow fall or high winds in certain areas, their local authorities decide the permit validations. If you are living in an area where carport or any building permits are necessary, they require quality standard certifications of metal buildings you are going to install. These types of buildings can be referred as Certified Metal Buildings which are designed by engineers and have specific ratings for snow load and wind. Certified Buildings include a tighter screw pattern, additional appropriate anchors depending on surface types. Please note there is no additional warranty on certified buildings. A certified building simply means the building is built to specifications and certified by a professional engineer to meet local building requirements
What is Permit? Do I Need Permit for Installing a Carport on my Property?
Permits are official approvals granted by your local county or city before installing a metal building. These ensure the structure meets local zoning, safety, and engineering standards. While the majority of areas do not require building permits, it’s always important to check with your local authorities before installation. We strongly recommend that customers contact their nearest county office to confirm requirements.
In some cases, Homeowners Association (HOA) approval may also be required, so be sure to review your community’s guidelines before proceeding. Even when permits are not required, we advise purchasing a certified building for added strength and long-term performance, especially in areas with heavy wind or snow loads.
Before Installing the Building Do I Need to Take Certain Steps?
Yes, you must ensure that the installation site (where you want to put up the building) is flat and leveled in order to complete the installation in given timeframe.
